About the Review

An independent assessment of our economy

The Independent Economic Review will establish a shared understanding of how Cheshire and Warrington’s economy works, what drives its performance and what could shape its future.

It will draw together existing studies, data and local knowledge into a coherent assessment, identifying gaps in the evidence and examining the choices and trade-offs facing the area.

The review will provide evidence for the statutory regional economic assessment and Local Growth Plan. It will also inform the Spatial Development Strategy, Local Transport Plan and Skills Plan, helping partners develop their plans from a consistent understanding of the economy.

The review will provide:

·       An independent assessment of economic strengths, challenges and opportunities.

·       Economic and demographic forecasts to help understand future pressures and possibilities.

·       Detailed analysis of how places, infrastructure, businesses and people interact.

·       A clear economic narrative and evidence of the choices and trade-offs ahead.

·       A reusable evidence base that the Combined Authority and its partners can update over time.

The findings will support future policy and investment decisions and strengthen Cheshire and Warrington’s case to government, investors and strategic partners.

The review will inform elected leaders’ decisions. It will not determine the incoming Mayor’s political priorities.
